10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag. Don't you find it interesting that for such a hyped and quickly selling out machine, you don't hear people talking about it being a good game? Spooky are great at listening to their customers and really know their brand. As a company, they seem to be doing all the right things, and I wish them success. I just think this game stinks. Why? Because Spooky clearly values different things than me in a pinball machine. This is a world under glass and is absolutely packed to the gills. I even heard one of the Spooky boys say in an interview that late in development they saw some open space on the playfield, so they squeezed in another ramp. They just want to give you more. How that effects gameplay is clearly secondary. I love great theme integration, and when I connect with a theme, I grade everything else on a curve, but to me pinball is a game first. Beetlejuice does not feel like that. It feels like a showstopper collectible that has to function to justify its existence and show off its clever tricks. The shots don't feel good, ramps are clunky, and the top left flipper area feels like a terrible upper playfield while also takng up a ton of space. Some cool toys, good theme, unfun bad game.
